Matěj Janák, a Prague-based artist, initially shaped his work outside the traditional gallery environment. His work is heavily influenced by graffiti's visual language and stems from an exploration of personal life experiences, which he translates across different contexts and media. Janák is not restricted solely to painting; his practice includes concepts, objects, and audio-visual pieces that draw on symbols of daily experiences and internal states of being, along with their associated coping mechanisms. His paintings are characterized by an expressive and experimental approach, where his use of colour and technique is directly influenced by his momentary emotional state. Janák employs recognizable shapes and colour gradients to forge a new discourse from the various strands of cultural thought.
